R.I.P.: My Skateboard

It is a sad time in the Adams household. A time of mourning for the loss of a loved one. A loved one taken well before its time. It was a senseless tragedy, and we are trying desperately to wrap our minds around it.

I am speaking of the loss of my dearest Christmas present, the Airwalk skateboard. Chanel scored the skateboard from a friend in the ward, who got the skateboard from Big 5 for free because it was given away as a "doorbuster" special during the store's grand opening. She is the coolest wife in the universe for thinking of getting the board for me. Her initial thought was that I'd ride it around at work. (All the cool kids have skateboards at my office.) However, I was too excited to treat it as a mere mode of transportation, and decided to take it to the Castle Rock skate park.

I couldn't believe the "sick tricks" I was pulling off on my new toy. Super high ollies. Sweet rail slides. All was going well until I tried to do the raddest rail slide in history. Instead of completing the trick, I snapped my board in half. Imagine how sheepishly I walked back to the car, snapped board pieces in hand, embarassed that all the 12-14 year-olds were wondering what an old geezer was doing walking around a skate park with a busted skateboard.

In all honestly the board was not exactly up to true skater standards. At the skate park one skater earnestly asked me if I "got it from Walmart." No, I didn't. But my next board ain't coming from Big 5, either.

I am accepting donations to the "Airwalk Skateboard Memorial Fund." Please make checks payable to Ryan Adams.

FYI...Comment above from Chanel. A little kid DID say I still got my moves. He then asked for my autograph, and told me he hopes to one day become a sad 30 year old and try to re-live his youth...just like me.

This blog is seriously too funny Ryan!!

So sorry about your skateboard - I think you should borrow Evan's. That way he'll stop skateboarding TO WORK like some kid in junior high.

Ps - totally backing you up on Mariah and Celine being on your Christmas list.
